Dark warehouses will solve many problems, but they also introduce additional risks from a security perspective. All the devices and software which are operating a dark warehouse are prone to security attacks. What is the threat profile of a dark warehouse, what are the security risks and how can dark warehouses be protected against the ever growing security risks?
Robotics has seen tremendous success in highly structured environments, such as factory automation. Deploying them in semi-structured environments (e.g., warehouses) or even unstructured environments (e.g., private homes) still poses major challenges as robots need to be endowed with the capabilities to deal with inherent variability in objects, environments, and tasks. For example, a robot in the postal and logistics industry should ideally be able to cope with a broad mix of unstructured parcels with varying or even unknown size, weight, form, packing material, center of gravity, etc. I will discuss specific challenges in robot manipulation, present some recent results where AI and machine learning have enabled robots to deal with such variability, and finally outline perspectives for future developments.
We are happy to announce two of Prime Vision’s in-house AI specialists will take the Innovation Now participants on a journey into the world of Deep Learning and Dark Warehousing.
Originally, AI and Deep Learning were used primarily to reduce the cost of operations, but today, these techniques are being used to help solve a wide range of problems, such as staff shortages. In an interview with chairman-for-the-day Donatello Piras. Michiel de Rijcke and Lorenzo d’Arsie will explore the many possible ways Deep Learning can be used in (Dark) warehousing.
