Eddy Thans (CEO)
Eddy Thans

After my study physics in 1996 I joined Prime Vision and I’m heading the group since the end of 1999. During my study I was already enthousiastic about image processing and was very happy I could extend those activities at Prime Vision. Amazing to be working for a company for such a long time, and still enjoying it every moment! Especially our international expansion and the growth of our customer portfolio really gives me a thrill. I think enthusiasm is the greatest asset in the world. So I’m keen on keeping pleasure in my life and work; for what soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul. So fun at work is important, but I also get a lot of energy of all the things I do beside work. I’m enjoying golf very much, especially when I can do a round with my wife and kid. Golf sounds lazy, so in able to stay somehow fit, I also like running. Running is a perfect way of stop thinking and just go with the flow.

Tom Ellis (General Manager Australia)
Tom Ellis

I have been involved with automatic identification since leaving college in 1986. Though I had been the Australian Managing Director of a leading camera and scanner manufacturer for a decade, I feel my position with Prime Vision provides the ultimate environment to capitalize on the experience I have gained over the last 25 years.

I think the most rewarding part of my job is the bond created with clients after providing true value to them. There is no greater reward than the pride and the team relationship that exists between us, the customer, our suppliers and contractors once a system is up and running.

I enjoy spending time with my family and take the opportunity whenever we can to travel around the country. Like many Australians, I enjoy the outdoors, swimming at the beach or pool, barbecues and most sports, particularly football and cricket. Beyond my work and leisure pursuits, I proudly volunteer my time helping with Special Olympics and other such organisations.

Eddie Drenth (International Account Manager)
Eddie Drenth

After my study mathematics in 1993 in California (United States) I moved to the Netherlands for a ‘back to your roots’ experience as my father is originally from the Netherlands. This ‘experience’ is still ongoing after more than fifteen years! After a technical start of my career and an MBA education I have primarily been commercially active developing business for innovative companies like RIM (Blackberry), Tele Atlas (now part of Tom Tom) and now Prime Vision! What do I do at Prime Vision? At Prime Vision I am part of the commercial team and have a focus on advancing our innovative Speech technologies! Aside from work I like to thoroughly enjoy our two small children, Jurriën & Famke. If I have time left over from that then I am busy with horses and, finally, if there’s still time left over then I’m allowed to pursue my classic car hobby, my specialty is cars in the sixties and seventies and especially Italian ones.

Jeroen Brans (Head of Project Management & Support)
Jeroen Brans

I joined Prime Vision in January 2011 to lead the Project Management department. In the years before I was a Business Project Manager at TNT. This is where I learned to execute projects in a complex environment. An important aspect of running projects apart from the result is the way to reach the result. People should enjoy being “part of the team” so joy, communication, understanding and an open mind are essential. But! In the end the (project) result has got to work; for the customer as well as for the people who use it.

Furthermore I am totally addicted to the game of golf. I spend as many moments on the golf course with my ten year old son as I can. Within three years I am probably not good enough to carry his bags, but I take that for granted. In the meantime my tennis game and running are suffering from my addiction. Other passions are good food (eating not cooking), music & concerts (all kinds but mostly jazz) and comic books.

Personal motto:

“Achievements provide joy and satisfaction in working and private life as well. Set yourself therefore realistic ambitious goals and go for it!”

Ornella Schavemaker-Piva (Senior Software & Support Engineer)
Ornella Schavemaker-Piva

I was born in Italy and at the age of 26 I moved to The Netherlands for my thesis at the University of Delft. What was supposed to be a six months experience turned to be a lifetime change, and I decided not to go back to Italy. In 1999 I started my career as a software engineer at High Tech Automation, then moved to TNO Defence Security and Safety and grown into many roles, such as software and system engineer, solution architect, project leader, and group facilitator. My drives are achieving the results and fulfilling the customer needs. With this in mind, within Prime Vision, I will split my activities between the Software Engineering team and the Support team.

When I’m not at work I enjoy my family, husband John, and my two sons Alexander and Mathias, our huge dog Yuma and many other critters. I still can find some time for hobbies, such as water rescue with my dog, anything creative (painting, leaded glass, costume jewelry), and I am a volunteer at the hedgehog rescue center.

Hans Jongebloed (Senior Speech Technology Scientist)
Hans Jongebloed

My name is Hans Jongebloed. I am the expert in the field of speech technology and I also

work in the OCR R&D team. Over the past 15 years, I’ve been working in the field of speech technology, including speech recognition, speech synthesis and (biometric) speaker verification. The ability of computers to understand human speech has fascinated me since I started studying artificial intelligence at the university of Groningen. I’ve been researching and implementing speech technologies in research groups at: university, IDIAP Switzerland, KPN Research, TNO ICT and Dutchear. Recently Dutchear and Prime Vision joined forces, which gave me the opportunity to work with both OCR and Speech technology; both being great examples of pattern recognition by computers. Next to improving the technology, I like to design systems that have optimal usability for the users.

In my spare time, I like to spend my time walking, running and watching wild life. Preferably, I go to the mountains for skiing, telemarking, climbing, walking and trail running.

Thomas Smith (Software Engineer)
