INCREASE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

Travelers are naturally very upset when their baggage is lost. In recent years the number of lost bags accounts for on average 9 bags per 1,000 bags handled. The impact (and rate of lost or late bags) increases substantially when you look at the transfer passenger category.  When something goes wrong in baggage handling you have a very upset customer, financial compensation costs and not least the damage to the reputation of both the airport and airline; what price can you put on these impacts? The fact is that all mid to large sized airports globally have advanced baggage handling systems in place to handle the majority of bags from check-in desks to the apron, however even the best systems still have a 2-5% baggage reject rate primarily due to identification issues during sorting.  That’s the nature of bags! They are every shape imaginable, heavy and identification tags can be anywhere and at any angle.  The trick is finding an efficient way of handling this 2-5% without the current manual handling methods which are costly, time-consuming and a major cause of error or at least delay.  Prime Vision can help solving this problem for you. Instead of manual handling, the bag will go to a combination of OCR and video coding which means you don’t need operators in the sorting system and you don’t need to physically handle the bag. Remove this major bottleneck from you system; Prime Vision can help.

INCREASE OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY AT AIRPORTS DUE TO LUGGAGE AUTOMATION

The airport is a high pressure environment, when things go wrong, they can go very wrong. Think about fines for lost bags, upsetting travelers due to lost or delayed baggage. Due to a lack of time between transfers, delays in handling bags can be a major issue and our analysis of root-cause failure proves that identification (or lack of) is the primary issue preventing bags reaching planes in time.

The pressure is most felt in areas where manual handling is involved. You only have one or two operators who have to do all the work and there also may be a printer problem at check-in. After this the bags go straight into automation, there will be no check in the process anymore.

The solution is: don’t handle it manually, keep it on the sorter, keep it on the sorter while it’s on its way to the planes. Handle the image, not the bag! Keep 100% of bags in automation, it’s about identifying bags that fail automation and handling it automatically without touching the bag in the fastest possible time and straight off to the plane. Prime Vision helps.

OPTIMIZE LUGGAGE SORTING

There are multiple opportunities in the process to register the bag. It has progressed through various stages of automation such as check in, at the point it enters the sorting system and through the process. When something does go wrong you can see where it went wrong. Previously, rejected bags leave the controlled environment of sorting for manual handling, however Prime Vision has some new capabilities for baggage handling systems that eliminate manual handling, so the bag doesn’t leave the systems until it reaches its destination. REDUCING MANUAL HANDLING OF BAGS

With our solution the bag is automated without leaving the sorter. We are adding another point of handling the luggage. Instead of to the manual coding station the bag goes through a reader that combines OCR with video coding. This means that less stations for manual sorting are required and the work load at the manual stations is lowered. Prime Vision helps.
